Sexual and Reproductive Health - STI testing coverage for 15 – 24 years olds

Last updated 2 December 2021.

The data is the latest available from ESR (Institute of Environmental Science and Research) and details the number of young people tested for chlamydia, number of laboratory-confirmed cases, chlamydia rates, percentage of young people tested that were positive and percent of people tested by age group and sex. ESR also included the same information for gonorrhoea.

Please note that the following spreadsheets for the Youth System Project for STI rates have been updated

  • Each workbook (2013 – 2016) now contains notes on how to read and interpret the data
  • The 2014 workbook Youth SLM analysis: West Coast DHB worksheet - coverage rates should have been a percentage, not a value for per thousand of population, now corrected in the updated version
  • The 2015 workbook Youth SLM analysis: Mid Central and Northland DHBs worksheets - coverage rates should have been a percentage, not a value for per thousand of population, now corrected in the updated version

The first sheet in each workbook provides the national rates. The subsequent workbooks provide information by DHB (except for Auckland and Wellington, where the information is provided regionally)
